VVP Spring 2021: First Spot Collaboration

Our new semester of VVP began on Tuesday 1/26. On Thursday 1/28, students participated in their first spot collaboration. Usually, this consists of students getting sheets of paper containing banks of text and making work together by cutting the text up and arranging it into new shapes, patterns, sculptural arrangements. Examples from previous semesters reveal the range of invention our students show during the activity, an activity that's usually accompanied by music played over the classroom hifi and coffee brewing in the classroom coffeemaker.

In the era of Covid-19, however, all class spot collaborations have to happen over Zoom. Students were given a digital document with a dense page of mostly randomly language drawn from the open tabs on my (Chris's) browser. Students were put into breakout rooms and given forty minutes or so to make something. The following, digital artifacts represent a selection of some of those projects.
